Privacy Policy – Historact Platform

Updated: November 4, 2025

Welcome to Historact — your AI-powered community and knowledge platform dedicated to history, philosophy, and art.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website, mobile applications, and related community services.

Who We Are

Our website address is: https://historact.com

Historact is operated as a free educational and community-based platform where users can learn, share, and participate in discussions about history, philosophy, and art.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.
After your comment is approved, your profile picture will be publicly visible next to your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the site can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you don’t have to re-enter your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.

When you log in, we set up temporary cookies to determine if your browser accepts cookies. These cookies contain no personal data and are discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display preferences. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks.
If you log out, the login cookies are removed.

When you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded Content From Other Websites

Articles and posts on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, and articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if the visitor had visited that other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who We Share Your Data With

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email for security verification.

Comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (Akismet) and anti-bot protection on our forms.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.

For users that register on our website, we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except changing their username). Website administrators can also view and edit that information.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you’ve provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you, except data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where Your Data Is Sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (Akismet).

Nextend Social Login

We use Nextend Social Login to allow you to register and log in using social accounts (Google, X, Facebook, etc.).
When you sign in with a social provider, the plugin collects:

  • Your name, email address, and profile picture (if provided by the social platform)

  • The access token needed for authentication

This data is used only to verify your identity and log you into Historact.
Nextend does not share or store your social access data beyond authentication.
When you delete your Historact account, your social data is deleted from our system.

Akismet Anti-Spam

We use Akismet to protect our platform from spam.
Akismet automatically collects information about visitors who comment on sites using its service.
The collected data typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and site URL, along with name, username, email address, and comment content.
You can learn more at https://automattic.com/privacy/.

LiteSpeed Cache

This site uses LiteSpeed Cache to optimize performance by caching pages and assets.
Cached copies may be temporarily stored on the server for faster loading and better user experience.
These cache files never contain personal data and automatically expire on a schedule.
For more details, refer to the LiteSpeed privacy policy: https://www.litespeedtech.com/company/privacy-policy

Fluent Forms

When you submit a form on our website (e.g., contact or newsletter forms), we collect the information you provide — such as your name, email, and message content — solely for responding to your inquiry or managing subscriptions.
Your form data may be sent through spam filters (e.g., Akismet) and stored securely in our database.

We do not share or sell form submissions with third parties.

FluentCommunity

Historact’s community platform (powered by FluentCommunity) stores member profiles, posts, and messages shared within the community.
This includes:

  • Display name, username, and email

  • Profile photo and biography (if added)

  • Public posts, comments, and interactions within community spaces

Users can edit or delete their profiles at any time. Private messages are accessible only to their participants.

Analytics

We may use privacy-compliant analytics tools (such as WordPress Site Stats or Google Analytics) to understand visitor behavior and improve content quality.
Analytics data is anonymized and does not include personally identifiable information.

Data Security

We maintain technical and organizational safeguards to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, misuse, loss, or alteration.
All data transmissions between your browser and our servers are encrypted via HTTPS.
